No, I am not being paid to review any of these products. I am simply a makeup junkie and I love to share good finds. My favorite brand is bareMinerals (I have enough bM to sink a small ship). I’ve been a groupie for over a decade and they very rarely disappoint. Not all beauty products are created equal. There are a lot of “lemons” out there (don’t you hate it when the promises on the package/website are an outright lie!?). My routine changes all the time, but right now, these are my faves:
bareMinerals Active Cell Renewal Night Serum
I started using this product around the same time that I went Vegan (February of 2012). Not long after, my (usually very problematic, acne-prone skin) cleared up (oh happy day – I’m in my thirties, so it’s about time). I’m not sure if it was this product or the healthier diet, but I suspect it was both. I have combination skin that can be quite oily in spots, so I was hesitant to use a serum. But, I’m so glad I tried it. I put on a light layer almost every night. It claims to “maximize cellular renewal and hydrate skin overnight.” I would agree. The down side is that it’s pricey, but it’s nearly the end of June, and as you can sort of see in the photo, I still have a bit left. It has lasted me about 5 months. $50 Find it here.
Rodan & Fields Foaming Sunless Tan
I’ve tried a LOT of sunless tanners and this is the best one I’ve found so far. It’s a lightweight, oil-free, mess-free COLORLESS foam that applies easily and dries very quickly. I often put it on before I go to bed and it doesn’t leave any stain on my pajamas or (white) bedding. Then I wake up with a tan that lasts for a couple of days! To start, I applied it daily until I reached the color I wanted. Now I just apply it once or twice a week. It’s very natural looking, not orangey at all and the bottle lasts a long time. LUV! $24 Find it here.
Too Faced Tinted Beauty Balm
This is kind of like a tinted (oil-free) moisturizer on steroids. It’s the perfect amount of coverage – just enough to even out skin tone and give a healthy glow. If you want more coverage, it works as a primer for your foundation. It blends like a gem and it comes with all these bells ‘n whistles…
1. Light-diffusing pigments tint and add radiance
2. Anti-aging, multi-mineral complex primes & prevents damage.
3. Hypoallergenic and soothing for all skin types.
4. Broad-spectrum, chemical-free SPF 20
Available in four shades. I use “Nude Glow” for the summer. Oh, and sometimes if I need more coverage, I put a little dab in my palm along with a little bareMinerals mineral foundation. Mix the two together and wah-lah! – you’ve got a creamy, oil-free, multi-benefit foundation. $32 Find it here.
NARS Duo Concealer
Whatever the Too Faced Beauty Balm missed gets covered up with this duo. I use a small concealer brush to apply, then blend it in with my finger. Excellent coverage, lasts all day, doesn’t crease or cake. I love the duo palette – I use the lighter color for under my eyes and the darker color most everywhere else. Plus you can blend the two for yet a third color. For me, the “Custard/Ginger” duo works year round. And this stuff lasts FOREVER. A little goes a long way (seriously, I think I’ve had my last one over a year – the one in the photo is brand new and just arrived today!). $30 Find it here.
bareMinerals “A Little Sun” All-Over Face Color
I guess you could call this my bronzer, but I use it more like a blush. It’s the perfect shade (“light brown with warm rosy tones”) to fake a natural looking tan, and it has a slight shimmer. A little goes a long way. $19 Find it here.
NARS The Multiple in “Copacabana”
I use this multi-purpose magic stick around my eyes and for highlighting. It blends like a dream (I just use my fingers) and has just the right amount of shimmer. This shade works on all skin tones, but there are 13 others to choose from. Good stuff, I tell ya. And again, it last for a long, long, long time. $39 Find it here.
CoverGirl LashExact Mascara
I’ve got such pitiful, wimpy little lashes. But with this stuff, you’d never know it. It lengthens, defines, doesn’t clump. Perfect brush. Not too wet or too dry. Just right. What more can I say? I prefer the “very black” shade. About $8 Find it here.
bareMinerals Mineral Veil
This has been a long time favorite of mine. One big sweep of this barely-there “magic dust” sets it all for a flawless (or as close as I’ll ever get to flawless, anyway) finish. Keeps me from getting oily and minimizes my pores. I prefer the “Original” and “Illuminating” versions. This, too, lasts a really long time. $20 Find it here.
Revlon Just Bitten Lipstain + Balm
I have the hardest time finding lip products that I like. Usually the color is the issue (too bright, too pink, too red, too orange, too shimmery – you get the drift) and/or I constantly have to reapply because it lasts all of two seconds. This was a pleasant surprise. First, I bought the “Flame” shade. It’s a juicy, fresh, light wash of red that sort of makes me look like I just ate a red popsicle. One end is like a marker – use this to apply as much or as little color you like, based on how much you layer it. The stain dries very quickly, so work fast. The other end is a smooth balm that gives your fresh stain a soft shine. I loved it so much, I bought two more shades – “Instinct” and “Victorian.” “Instinct” is very subtle, but I love the soft, dusty, neutral-berry tone. “Victorian” is a perfect summer shade of berry-pink. Mostly I just love how long the colors stay on! A steal at about $8 each. Find it here.
So, there you have it, folks. Nine beauty products that measure up to their claims. I would love to hear about your favorites!
