I kept seeing this recipe all over Pinterest. That ooey-gooey, melty chocolate photo finally got the best of me and I decided to see if these grain-free little devils tasted as good as they looked. Unfortunately, I noticed that there have been a few other bloggers who have made this recipe, then stolen the original photo, which they posted to Pinterest with a link to their own blog. Dude, that’s not cool. Don’t do that. That’s stealing. Post your own photos. I finally tracked down the original recipe source (or at least it appears to be the original source). In any case, I’m so glad I found the Texanerin Baking blog because the blog author, Erin, has some mad baking skills. There are loads of…

Test Report: Frosted Chocolate Cupcakes (vegan, gf)
Last week we celebrated Hubs’ birthday. Ever since he was a kid, he’s had this obsession with a tiny little bakery in his hometown called Zeeland Bakery. In his mind, this place is legendary. While he’s nuts about their donuts and cookies, it’s their cake (and by cake I mean frosting) that he absolutely adores. It’s super sweet and sugary. No whipped/light/fluffy stuff here. This stuff is heavy-duty. And those gross frosting flowers? He loves ‘em. He would love it if the whole cake was covered in them. I don’t know anyone with a bigger sweet tooth than Hubs. Except maybe my sister, whose favorite food group is candy. Here is a photo of last year’s cake, along with a card he received from my…

Test Report: Chocolate Mini Tarts (raw, gf, vegan) + Giveaway Winner!
Hubs gets home from work, walks in the door. I’m in the kitchen, which is a disaster zone and I am very irritated… Hubs: What’s wrong? Me: Oh I just wasted all this time making this stupid recipe and it tastes like crap. Hubs: Oh no. What is it? Me: Mini chocolate tarts. They’re raw, you won’t like it. Hubs: It looks really good. Me: Yeah, and I think my photos turned out great, but now I can’t even use ‘em. Hubs: (takes a bite) What’s the problem? It’s great! I love it! Me: You’re lying. You’re just trying to make me feel better. Hubs: (takes another bite) No I’m not – I think it’s really good! Me: Really? I hate it. I think it’s…

Blood Test Results + Vegan Food Swap
Just over a week from now, Hubs and I (along with a group from our church) will be leaving for a mission trip to Dominican Republic. We are very excited about this trip and I can’t wait to share photos and details with you when we return. I am going to try my best to write a few pre-scheduled posts before we leave so this blog won’t be entirely lifeless while we’re gone for a week. We’ve been to DR before. On vacation. At a beautiful resort. So this will be an entirely different experience. In fact, I just saw the doctor this week so I could get a prescription for Chloroquine (malaria pills) and Cipro (an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections – in…

Test Report: Peanut Butter Crispy Rice Treats (vegan, gf)
Yikes. An entire week flew by without a single post. I can assure you it’s not because I was lazy. I don’t feel like I got that much done, but I sure feel like I was busy. Between design projects, dentist/doctor appointments, a million errands/tasks, book club, testing recipes, learning about food photography, getting my car fixed, cleaning up the pieces of our former garbage container that some idiot blew to pieces while he was probably texting just before he did a 180 and went into the ditch backwards (no one was hurt) and re-training the dogs to use the porta-potty in the garage so I don’t have to clean massive clumps of snow off them multiple times a day (don’t judge) – well, there…

Welcome to 86 Lemons. My name is Livvy. Thanks for stopping by! I test a wide variety of seemingly fun DIY projects, vegan recipes and consumer products (like the latest mascara, for example). Then I report to you with the inside scoop. You'll get the real story on which ones are worth your attention and which ones are "lemons" to be avoided. Read more on my
