Hubs gets home from work, walks in the door. I’m in the kitchen, which is a disaster zone and I am very irritated… Hubs: What’s wrong? Me: Oh I just wasted all this time making this stupid recipe and it tastes like crap. Hubs: Oh no. What is it? Me: Mini chocolate tarts. They’re raw, you won’t like it. Hubs: It looks really good. Me: Yeah, and I think my photos turned out great, but now I can’t even use ‘em. Hubs: (takes a bite) What’s the problem? It’s great! I love it! Me: You’re lying. You’re just trying to make me feel better. Hubs: (takes another bite) No I’m not – I think it’s really good! Me: Really? I hate it. I think it’s…

Blood Test Results + Vegan Food Swap
Just over a week from now, Hubs and I (along with a group from our church) will be leaving for a mission trip to Dominican Republic. We are very excited about this trip and I can’t wait to share photos and details with you when we return. I am going to try my best to write a few pre-scheduled posts before we leave so this blog won’t be entirely lifeless while we’re gone for a week. We’ve been to DR before. On vacation. At a beautiful resort. So this will be an entirely different experience. In fact, I just saw the doctor this week so I could get a prescription for Chloroquine (malaria pills) and Cipro (an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections – in…

Detox Week 4 + DIY Open Pantry Shelves
I made it! Well, almost. When the clock strikes midnight I will have survived a 28-day detox. I even stuck it out right through Thanksgiving. What a wonderful feeling to have no post-feast gut rot or guilt! It’s a beautiful thing. I did get frustrated with eating raw at one point (my “mid-detox meltdown”), but I hung in there. I’m finishing out the last three days with a 3-day juice fast. Sunday (juice day 1) was the hardest – I got pretty hungry at times. Yesterday was easier, today has been the easiest (you would think it would go the other way but I guess your body adjusts). Even though I never did do the enema (which is part of the detox), I do feel…

Santa should probably cut back.
Whew… well that was a busy week. Hoping to get back on track with more frequent posts this week. We hauled out the Christmas tree and decorations today. The house is looking festive and cozy. I’ll share pics soon :) So, I was thinking… while Santa may be jolly, his “husky” physique tells me he’s not too healthy. It’s time that he trade in the Twinkies and Ho Hos (which may be going extinct anyhow) for some nutritious alternatives. How else will he continue to slide down all those chimneys? I’ve got just the thing… As I mentioned in my last post, I had some leftover crust mixture from the 5-Ingredient Raw Apple Pie. I added just a few more ingredients to create a healthy…

Test Report: 5-Ingredient Raw Apple Pie (vegan, gf)
Day 21 of my 28-day detox. Still hanging in there. Thank you to so many of you who sent me tips and raw recipes to try in response to my last post (mid-detox meltdown). You guys rock! Tonight is our last detox class with instructor, Margaux Drake. After class, we’re having a “rawluck” (a potluck with all raw foods). I’m excited to see what everyone brings! Hoping to get some good ideas that will help me pull off the last 7 days of this detox. While searching for a dish to bring, I found a recipe for 5-Ingredient Raw Apple Pie on Ali Seiter’s Farmers Market Vegan blog. I tested it and, while it’s not really potluck-friendly (a little too messy and challenging to slice),…

Welcome to 86 Lemons. My name is Livvy. Thanks for stopping by! I test a wide variety of seemingly fun DIY projects, vegan recipes and consumer products (like the latest mascara, for example).
