I’m not really sure which teams are in the Super Bowl. Well, now I am. I just googled it. 49ers and Ravens. While I love to watch college football (Michigan Wolverines, in particular), pro football just doesn’t interest me much. But I do look forward to the clever commercials during the Super Bowl. And sometimes there’s a decent halftime show. Mostly I just like that the Super Bowl is a great excuse to get together with friends and munch on good food while feigning moderate interest in the game. And by good food, I don’t mean Doritos and Cheetos. I mean Creamy Artichoke Spinach Dip, Peanut Butter Crispy Rice Treats, Hummus with Toasted Pine Nuts, Veggie Quesadillas, Fresh Guacamole, Vegan Buffalo Bites and Mushroom &…

Test Report: Roasted Pear and Arugula Salad (vegan, gf)
Have you ever roasted a pear? Until now, I had not. I know – so sad, right? Well, I mean, I’ve eaten roasted pears (in salads, desserts, etc at restaurants), but I had never prepared my own. It’s so easy and yet the result is so gourmet, so decadent. I’ve gotta do this more often. It’s a shame that I didn’t have dinner guests the day I made this. All that fanciness for just Hubs and me. I found this recipe on a blog called Fat Girl Trapped in a Skinny Body (I WISH!) authored by a gal named Julia. Her blog isn’t focussed on vegan food, but she does have a number of great-looking vegan recipes. Check out the video on her About page….

Test Report: Creamy Artichoke Spinach Dip (vegan, gf)
I swear it was Monday, then I blinked and it was Friday. The days fly by so fast. I can never ever seem to get caught up with my giant to-do list. Things get added faster than I can cross them off. I managed to order my Christmas cards a couple of weeks ago. They arrived last week. And I haven’t mailed a single one yet. I did buy stamps today, though… so that counts for something, right? Nonetheless, the weekend is nearly here and I’m looking forward to attending a couple of holiday parties! For both parties, guests have been asked to bring a dish to pass. Today, I decided to do a trial run on Dreena Burton’s Creamy Artichoke Spinach Dip (without all…

Leafy Greens with BBQ Walnut Crumble (raw, vegan, gf)
Last night was detox class #2 (out of 4). We talked about poop pretty much the whole time. Yeah. Poop. We were instructed, among other things, to do an enema a day. I’m scared *@!*less to do an enema (pun intended). Jury’s out on that one – not sure I can do it. But apparently it makes a huge difference. And the thought of gross mucus lining my intestines isn’t too pretty. I kinda want to get that stuff outta there. Ya know?! As I mentioned in my last post, one of my goals for the remainder of the detox (21 more days) is to eat only raw food as much as possible. Yesterday, I made this beautiful salad for lunch… And is was sooooooooooooo…

Test Report: Vegan Mediterranean Rice Salad
RECIPE: Vegan Mediterranean Rice Salad FROM: www.savvyvegetarian.com Our small group had a Mediterranean-themed potluck last month. When I googled something like “vegan mediterranean recipe,” I stumbled upon this awesome salad. And I’m SO glad I did! I’m also glad I found Savvy Vegetarian, which is full of really great vegetarian/vegan advice, recipes, articles, etc. Check out this link for useful vegetarian/vegan cooking tips. I love this salad so much that I’ve made it three times already. I mean I REALLY love it. I’m not a big fan of leftovers, but this salad is an exception. It keeps well in the fridge for a few days and tastes even better on day two. This is a great recipe to make ahead for a potluck, then serve…
