Sometimes I get in a rut with salads and then I get sick of them. I need to change up the ingredients more often. Throw in a more fruity version like this one once in a while. Unless you’re like my dad who doesn’t like fruit in his garden salad. Then you’re just missing out, I guess. This post isn’t a recipe for a salad (it’s pretty easy to figure out the ingredients: spring salad mix, sliced strawberries, blueberries, cooked asparagus, pecans). Rather, I’m sharing the recipe for the magic ingredient–the DRESSING! This is a sweet, tangy, creamy dressing that is so easy to make. Just throw the ingredients into the blender and you’re done. Boring salad crisis averted. I found a similar recipe from…

Pineapple + Portobello Tacos with Roasted Chickpeas (vegan, gf)
Ahhh – SUNSHINE!!!! Finally. Nice weather can do wonders for my ambition level. It’s like the sun is beaming down all this energy into my body. Over the weekend, Hubs and I managed to get a whole lot of work done and continued right into Monday and Tuesday. Now we can barely move. We replaced the carpet in our living room with hardwood maple. There are just a few rows left to install, then onto sanding, staining and coating. If you want to test your marriage, this is a good way to do it. It doesn’t help that I might be the pickiest person on the planet. It DOES help that I married the most patient person on the planet. Joking aside, we’re actually a…

Stella & Dot Giveaway – Summer 2013 Collection
That’s right, it’s time for another Stella & Dot giveaway! This time, from the just released 2013 Summer Collection. Our Chelsea Tech Wallet has been extremely popular and since you all seemed to love the giveaway I did last fall (for the Chelsea in poppy), I decided to give away another one! ***Note: This wallet is currently available in three patterns. The navy stripe pattern is very low in stock, so if you really love it, I suggest ordering it NOW. It will be back in stock briefly starting on/about May 10. After that, it won’t be back in stock until July.*** I am still loving this tech wallet as much as I did when it first arrived last fall. It’s just SO handy! It…

Test Report: Southwestern Quinoa Pasta Salad (vegan, gf)
I saw this image on How Does She’s Facebook page today and it couldn’t be more accurate. As far as I’m concerned, March can start going out like a lamb any day now. I’ve had enough snow and cold weather. Bring on the sunshine, Lord. Please. My sister, who now lives in Texas, brought her six kids home (to Michigan) for a visit over Spring Break. Talk about backwards – going from Texas to Michigan! My idea of Spring Break doesn’t involve building a snowman, but that’s what they did… They stayed with my parents, who live a couple of hours from me. I was getting ready to head down for an overnight visit with the whole gang and I needed a quick dish that…

Test Report: Vegan Peach Crisp
As we say goodbye (unofficially) to yet another beautiful summer, I’m squeezing in every drop of fresh, juicy summer fruit I can find. Like peaches. The apple harvest has already begun, but I’m just not ready to accept that fall is so very close. So, what better transition than Peach Crisp? A traditionally fall dish made with a summer fruit. Perfection. While I’m not wild about the title, the book Skinny Bitch by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin was very influential in my decision to go vegan. If you can get past the occasional language, you’ll find a ton of really great (and somewhat shocking and sometimes funny) information. Some interesting excerpts from the book: “When aspartame is paired with carbs, it causes your brain…

Welcome to 86 Lemons. My name is Livvy. Thanks for stopping by! I test a wide variety of seemingly fun DIY projects, vegan recipes and consumer products (like the latest mascara, for example).
