Vegan Food Swap

A vegan food swap? I know, how very hippie/granola, right? I feel so So Cal ;)

I discovered this Vegan Food Swap (yes, there are others) while reading Pickles & Honey last month. This led me to VFS creator, Cat at The Verdant Life. Each month, fellow vegans sign up to participate in vegan goodie swapping. Since I’m still a vegan rookie, this seemed like a great way to get exposed to different products. And it was!

Cat matched me up with two vegan peeps – one who would receive a package from me, and one who would send me a package. My awesome goodie box came from Shelby at Everyday Vegan Girl, who also included a thoughtful note, briefly commenting on each item…

Eden Organic Spelt Udon Pasta
Shelby:  I haven’t tried these, but I love all udon noodles.

Until now, I had never eaten an udon noodle (that I know of). But, let me tell you, they are delicious! I used them in this recipe from Love and Lemons. (When my blog grows up, it wants to be just like Love and Lemons, btw.) Mind you, I had no camera that day, so this crappy photo from my phone is all I have. Don’t let the photo fool you – it was an excellent recipe. If you’re looking for ways to use fresh corn, this is brilliant. I was going to tell you all about why my husband calls me a ‘corn snob,’ but I’ll save that for another day.

Alter Eco Dark Chocolate Cacao
Shelby:  Organic, fair trade and made with unrefined sugar!

Um, yeah, this didn’t last long. It was the first thing to disappear. Needless to say, I liked it!

Archer Farms Dried Pomegranate Seeds
Shelby:  I had to try these because they’re so different! They have sugar in them, but they’re good for a little treat.

I try to avoid refined sugar and white flour, and so does Shelby. But she’s right, they are a nice treat. They are sweet and crunchy, a perfect add-in for my morning oatmeal (along with chopped pecans)! Again, excuse the camera photo.


Let’s Do Organic 100% Organic Shredded Coconut (Unsweetened)
Shelby:  My favorite kind that I use on everything, including the granola.

Kaia Foods Cocoa Mole Sprouted Sunflower Seeds
Shelby:  These are a great raw snack.

I go through quite a bit of unsweetened shredded coconut, and Shelby restocked my supply just in time! Unfortunately, I totally wasted these two goodies (coconut and cocoa mole sunflower seeds) in this mess of a recipe. Boo :(

Shelby’s Homemade Coconut Granola

I DO! I DO! This is some very TASTY granola. I have not made it myself yet, but believe me, I will! Find her recipe here. Thank you for the sample, Shelby! I enjoyed it with the So Delicious Coconut Milk, also included in the box.

The Ginger People Ginger Chews
Shelby:  Great for after meals.

This is something I probably would have never tried if it weren’t for Shelby. They are good!! Sweet and spicy and very, very chewy. I was surprised to read about all the benefits packed into these little treats! More, please.

This is the only thing from the box that I haven’t yet tried. But I’m positive that I will enjoy them :)

  1. I am so glad you enjoyed everything! Sorry about the recipe failure, but I have been there many times and it sucks! I am definitely going to try that corn recipe…it sounds so good. I have some frozen roasted corn from Trader Joe’s that I think would be so good in it!
