Vegan Food Swap

September was my third month participating in Vegan Food Swap, coordinated by Cat at The Verdant Life. This monthly post is beginning to be a marker of time for me. I just can’t believe how quickly the days, weeks, months fly by. The holidays will be here in a hot minute and then a new year will begin. Life moves too fast, I tell ya. In fact, this post is supposed to be written on the last day of the month, so I’m a day late. Oops.

This month, I was matched up with Kara in California (who sent me a package) and Melissa in Colorado (who received a package from me). Kara outdid herself, I must say. Here’s what she sent me:

Vegan Yum Yum (a vegan cookbook by Lauren Ulm)
It is a fantastic cookbook, complete with a photo for EVERY recipe (love that!) and even some step-by-step photos. I already tested a recipe from the book (Squash Stuffed with Cherry Apple Almond Couscous) and it was delicious! The book alone would have been plenty, but Kara didn’t stop there…

NuGo Organic Nutrition Bars
She sent three bars, but one never made it to photo day (it was good!). This is why I love Vegan Food Swap – I get introduced to new products that I may otherwise never try. These bars are not the size of a matchbox car – they are BIG! And they are coated in REAL dark chocolate! They are perfect when you’re on the go and don’t have time for a meal. My favorite was the Double Dark Chocolate flavor.

TAZO Hot Tea
Kara sent several flavors, including Calm, Wild Sweet Orange, Passion, Berryblossom White and Zen. Now that the weather is cooler and Fall is here, I will be getting plenty of use out of these!

Stretch Island Fruit Co. All-Natural Fruit Strips
These were also new to me. They are no wimpy fruit strip – much denser and more flavorful than others I’ve tried. It’s amazing that each one contains a half serving of fruit! Great for stashing in your purse/car/desk/etc. I suspect kids would love these, too.

Divine Dark Chocolate Bar
Who doesn’t love a chocolate treat? Also new to me, this bar is not overly sweet, nor bitter – it’s just right. Strict vegans, be aware, this product contains butterfat, which is a milk derivative.

Many Vegan Food Swap participants are bloggers, but several are not. Anyone can participate (click here for more info). Kara, my package sender, does not have her own blog (yet?!), but she currently oversees the new Oxy Veg Club blog (at Occidental College in L.A.). Thanks again, Kara, for a wonderful package! I hope you got some great goodies from your sender, too! And thank you to Cat for coordinating this monthly swap :)
